My term on Rainbow List is over (check out our final list here), so now I’m free to talk about whatever LGBTQIA+ books I want. But, first, let’s talk about love. Queer love. In children’s picture books. What better post to tie into Valentine’s Day?

TBR Pile: Aug 2017

Happy August—AKA Eclipse Month here in Oregon and elsewhere. Surely you’ve heard by now (and maybe even purchased a pair or two of eclipse glasses) but on August 21 the moon’s shadow is passing through the continental US for the first time in 40 years. There are also some really exciting books passing through the continental US this month, including The Bernie Sanders Guide to Political Revolution. Read on and share your must-reads in the comments!
TBR Pile: July 2017

It feels like it has been ages since I’ve posted one of these roundups. I’ll admit I didn’t spend as much time at ALA previewing titles as I did attending sessions. Fall 2018 can’t come soon enough… So, tell me, what are YOU excited about this month?

Booklist: LGBTQ+ Reads for K-6

Last week, I shared something really personal: I came out to my 8-year-old niece. Since then, I’ve received some wonderful words of support and, perhaps more importantly, some really great book recommendations to further my discussions with young people about what it means to be LGBTQ+. All the books I sent my niece were focused on gay (white) men—yikes!—so I’m thrilled to take this opportunity to share more books (with her and with you) to include a broader representation of the LGBTQ+ community.
