Happy August—AKA Eclipse Month here in Oregon and elsewhere. Surely you’ve heard by now (and maybe even purchased a pair or two of eclipse glasses) but on August 21 the moon’s shadow is passing through the continental US for the first time in 40 years. It feels like it has been ages since I’ve posted one of these roundups. I’ll admit I didn’t spend as much time at ALA previewing titles as I did attending sessions. And I’ve been really distracted by the recent news that a new Maurice Sendak picture book was discovered and will be released next year. Fall 2018 can’t come soon enough… So, tell me, what are YOU excited about this month?

It’s June! June is great. June is also wild: Pride Month, Summer Reading, so many family and friends’s birthdays (not to mention my own)… Anyway, here are some June releases I can’t wait to read—preferably on my favorite park bench near my neighborhood branch library. What are YOU reading this month?
Hooray for May! Apparently it’s a big month for Mo Willems—new board book, new collection, new “Elephant & Piggie Like Reading” book. But Jerry Pinkney is also back with a retelling of one of my absolute favorite fairytales. And then there are all of these other exciting new titles! Who needs pretty flowers when there are all these pretty new books to smell? (I can think of one or two that might even get eaten…)
Each year since grad school, I’ve tried to take one ALSC/YALSA e-course to keep my librarian skills sharp. This year I’m taking “Building Reflective Collections…Always Teens First” with Julie Stivers (@BespokeLib). I’ve loved the course so far, and I wanted to take a second to share a bit about what we did for one of the assignments.
